To the physically handicapped to start self-employment

Nagapattinam : U. Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy Development, paid a visit to Manalur in Kilvelur taluk in Nagapattinam district on Wednesday and took part in the mass contact programme convened by Collector Tenkasi S. Jawahar.

The Minister's visit came as a surprise to the villagers and a large number of people turned up to air their grievances to the Minister, who received a number of petitions and assured the villagers to do the needful for the village through his MLA's development fund. He said that a new road would be laid in the village.

Mr. Mathivanan distributed loans of Rs.10,000 each to 10 physically handicapped for starting self-employment ventures. He also distributed 50 free house site pattas at the mass contact programme.

Tenkasi S. Jawahar, Collector, said that the district administration had received as many as 344 petitions last month of which actions were taken on 277 petitions and 67 rejected. He said that a number of petitioners sought old age pension, free house site pattas, desilting of irrigation channel in the village, etc.

The Collector pointed out that the district administration was providing employment for a minimum period of 100 days per person in a family under the Tamil Nadu Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and said that thousands of people were benefited. He appealed to the villagers to make use of the medical check-up facility being provided under the `Varumun Kappom' scheme.
