Solar eclipse on March 19

HYDERABAD: The partial Solar eclipse, which falls on March 19 will occur from 6.22 a.m. reaching maximum phase at about 6.50 a.m. when 34 per cent of the sun will be covered. It will end at 7.35 a.m.

Astronomy enthusiasts who wish to view this celestial event should use certified astronomical photographic films, according to a press release from B.G. Sidharth, Director, B. M. Birla Science, Centre here on Wednesday.

He said smoked glass and exposed photographic films were not advisable to view the eclipse.

The safest way would be by viewing its reflection in a bowl of dark liquid or its projection through a telescope on a screen.
