Puducherry : Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has called upon the consumers to be wary about the quality of consumer products. Inaugurating the World Consumer Rights Day celebrations organised by the Pudhuvai Amarar Rajiv Gandhi Nugarvor Forum in association with the Department of the Civil Supplies and Consumer Welfare here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that consumer rights should be safeguarded. He said that consumers also had responsibility to be aware of the quality and hygienic features of commodities. The Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum as well as the Commission were instituted under the Protection of Consumer Act and hence aggrieved consumers could move these legal authorities to get relief if the commodities were of substandard quality. Chairman of Oulgaret Municipal council N.S.J. Jayapal highlighted the facilities available for consumers to get relief if they were affected by the poor services or supplied substandard commodities. Director of the Civil Supplies K. Elumalai, Managing Director of the Civil Supplies Corporation (PAPSCO) Anbalagan, municipal councillors and functionaries of the consumer organisations were among those who spoke. The World Consumer Rights Day was celebrated by a number of consumer welfare organisations including the Humanity Consumer Centre and the Pudhuvai Nugarvor Ethiroli in association with the Department of Civil Supplies.
Pledge
A pledge was taken at the celebration of the Day organised by the Indian Consumer Welfare Council in association with Pavendhar Teachers Training institute at Gandhi Thidal here. Chairperson of Puducherry Municipal Council B. Sridevi, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator S.P. Sivakumar and officials addressed the participants.
