National-ranking archery from today

HYDERABAD: The qualifying rounds of the National-ranking archery circuit tournament for men and women will be held at Lal Bahadur Stadium here from Friday.

The event assumes significance as the Indian team for the two World Cups to be held in Korea and Italy in April and May this year respectively will be picked based on the performances here.

The event featuring 100 archers will also serve as a selection tournament for the first leg of the 44th World Championship to be held in Germany in July this year. Some of the big names of Indian archery including World Cup winner Jayanth Talukdar, Arjuna Awardees Dola Banerjee and Tarundeep Rai would be in action.

To create interest amongst the locals, the organisers have decided to have the finals at the People's Plaza on the Necklace Road on March 19. — Principal Correspondent
