GURGAON: Meghna Bal played like a professional on the front-nine but lost her way with three bogeys over five holes and slipped to the third place after two rounds of the $100,000 DLF Women's Indian Open golf tournament here at the DLF Golf and Country Club on Thursday. Meghna, who tossed away her overnight two-stroke lead by returning a card of two-over 74, now finds herself behind Chinese Taipei's Tseng Ya Ni and Thailand Russamee Gulyanamitta.
Tseng in lead
Tseng, who shared the second spot with Russamee on the first day, shot a second successive 70 for a tally of 140. One shot behind was Russamee following a 71. For the first 10 holes, Meghna looked in control. Starting from the 10th tee, she collected her lone birdie of the day on the 14th with a 12-foot putt after her 8-iron third shot went past the flag. While coming in, Meghna lost control over her shots. On the second hole, she three-putted. On the fourth, Meghna missed an up-and-down putt after she hit her pitching-wedge under the ball from 126 yards from the pin. On the sixth, Meghna pulled her driver to find herself in a bunker. Her third shot from about 160 yards went over the green and a missed putt meant her third bogey. Irina Brar, Smriti Mehra and Parneeta Garewal were the only Indian professionals to survive the cut. The scores: Tseng Ya Ni (Tpe) (70, 70) 140; Russamee Gulyanamitta (Tha) (70, 71) 141; Meghna Bal (A) (68, 74) 142; Lee Eun Kyoung (Kor) (71, 72) 143; Titiya Plucksataporn (Tha) (75, 70) 145; Yeo Ji Yae (Kor) (75, 71) 146; Lee Bo Ri (Kor) (71, 76) and Jade Schaeffer (Fra) (75, 72) 147; Irina Brar (70, 79), Shih Huei-Ju (Tpe) (72, 77) and Rie Shiraki (Jpn) (72, 77) 149.
