BANGALORE: Central Excise entered the semifinals of the Field Marshal Cariappa memorial hockey tournament with a 3-2 win over Indian Telephone Industries. Excise's Cariappa scored the winning goal in the sixth minute of extra time. Earlier, the teams ended regulation time tied 2-2 with Jeevan (31st) and Cariappa (51st) scoring for Central Excise and Somaiah (12th) and Rajendra Kumar (32nd) scoring for ITI. Canara Bank also entered the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Madras Engineering Group. Verghese (45th), Krishna Reddy (65th) and Somanna (68th) scored for Canara Bank while M. Bhengra (61st) scored the lone goal for MEG. Friday is a rest day and on Saturday, Karnataka State Police will clash with Maharatta Light Infantry while Canara Bank will play Central Excise in the second semifinal. — Special Correspondent
