Kolkata: The Singur project, once completed, will generate additional revenue of about Rs. 450 crore for the State Government and employment for over 7,500 people. Also, the Tatas will pay an annual lease rent of Rs. one crore for the first five years of the 90-year lease, West Bengal Industry Ministry Nirupam Sen said on Thursday. After five years, the annual lease rent would be increased gradually to touch a level of Rs. 20 crore from the 60th year, Mr. Sen said in the Assembly. Taking part in the debate on the Governor's address, he regretted the opposition to the project. Never before had he seen such "destructive politics," he said. The remarks came on a day when Tata Motors managing director Ravi Kant was in town to attend an auto seminar. Mr. Kant said whatever happened was unfortunate, and he did not want to talk about it. It was for the "people to decide what is beneficial for them." The eastern region needed industrialisation, and Tata Motors came to West Bengal braving great risks and against all odds.
