Aa. Na. Ramesh

Most theatre aficionados are familiar with actors, directors and, at the most, the musicians. Now ask them about people backstage, and most probably you will draw a blank. You're sure to get such a response when you mention Aa. Na. Ramesh too. This quiet, mild-mannered veteran has been associated with Kannada theatre for almost three decades now and has lent his services as stage and light designer.

The Chamanlal Memorial Society, Delhi, is bestowing this year's Chamanlal Memorial Award to Mr. Ramesh, for his outstanding contribution to the field of stage lighting.

Mr. Ramesh, a senior engineer with MICO, has worked in more than 50 plays, apart from his own directorial ventures. He has participated in several prestigious festivals including SAARC and Vishwa Kannada Sammelana and has won an award from the Karnataka Nataka Academy.

The Chamanlal Award will be conferred on him on April 21 in Delhi, but the local theatre fraternity is having a congratulatory evening, Belaka Belli, on March 17, at the Ravindra Kalakshetra, 6 p.m.
