Bangalore: The Bangalore City Poultry, Meat and Fish Sellers Association have urged the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to stop their "sealing drive" against the meat and, poultry and fish shops as it was affecting the livelihood of the sellers. Association president Arun Prakash, told presspersons here on Thursday that about 500 families were on the streets because of BBMP's sudden move to close down illegal meat shops. "We are being made the scapegoats because two children died of dog bite in the city. That is not our fault and we are being victimised," he said. "The officials suddenly come without giving us any notice and close down our shops. "We are not given any prior notification or time to get a licence for our shops," he said. A senior member of the association said some of the shops had not got a licence because the BBMP had rejected their application for minor reasons. "We are not throwing animal waste or garbage on the road. "The BBMP collects Rs. 120 from us every week to collect the garbage on its trucks. Why should we throw it on the streets?" the members asked. The association staged a demonstration outside the palike premises and presented a memorandum to Administrator Dilip Rau and BBMP Commissioner K. Jairaj.
