BANGALORE: Gold ornaments estimated at Rs. 4.50 lakh and Rs. 20,000 in cash were stolen from an IAS officer's hotel room in Upparpet police station limits on Wednesday. The police said Prathap Sinha, an IAS officer from Lucknow, had come here for his son's admission into a professional college and was staying with family members in a Gandhinagar hotel. Around 9.30 p.m., Mr. Sinha found that a bag containing the cash and jewellery was stolen from the room. The Upparpet police, who have registered a case, suspect that a room boy who brought tea for Mr. Sinha and his family members, might have made away with the bag.
Chain snatched
A man snatched a gold chain estimated at Rs. 40,000 from Prameela Bai (32) in J.P. Nagar police station limits on Wednesday. The police said that around 7.30 p.m., a man came from behind and snatched the chain while the victim was walking near Sangam Circle.
Vehicles recovered
The City Market police arrested two persons on charges of vehicle theft and recovered from them a car and a motorcycle, estimated at Rs. 4.50 lakh. The arrested were identified as Mohammed Azam Khan (32) of Pillanna Garden and Abdul Khalak Khan (40) of Kadugondanahalli. The accused had stolen the car from Mumbai and the motorcycle from Shivajinagar.
Killed in road accident
Amith Kumar (22), an undergraduate at M.S. Ramaiah College, was killed after a sports utility vehicle hit his motorcycle near Devasandra Circle in R.T. Nagar traffic police station limits around 10.30 p.m. Wednesday. The R.T. Nagar traffic police arrested the driver Kumar. In another incident, Somashekar (22) of Katakanapalya died and four others were injured in a collision between two motorcycles in Ramanagaram Rural police station limits around 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Stolen
A thief put his hand through an open window and stole a mobile phone estimated at Rs. 25,000 from Yogesh's house on 8th Main, J.P. Nagar on Wednesday night. The police said the phone was kept on the windowsill.
DVDs seized
The Central Crime Branch staff on Wednesday arrested Inayath (38) of Haleguddadahalli and seized from him 694 pirated DVDs and VCDs, estimated at Rs. 1.28 lakh. The accused was selling the pirated discs on the pavement.
