Two nabbed for burglaries

NEW DELHI: Two young men have been arrested by the South Delhi police on charges of involvement in burglary cases. The police claim to have recovered a large number of stolen computer parts and a laptop from their possession.

Deepak and Sooraj were arrested near the Lotus Temple in Kalkaji on Tuesday. During interrogation, they purportedly told the police that they used to steal computer parts and laptops in connivance with their accomplice, Ram Kumar.

Arrested for wife's murder

NEW DELHI: A young man who allegedly killed his wife in Uttar Pradesh in 2002 has been arrested by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police.

Sanjay Rishi is a resident of Najafgarh. The police said he killed his wife as he suspected her of having an extramarital affair. Acting on a tip-off that he and his accomplice Harish would come near Chetan farmhouse to meet someone, a team led by Inspector Rajpal Dabas laid a trap and arrested the duo. A country-made firearm and a knife were recovered from their possession.

Seminar on Indian literature

NEW DELHI: A three-day national seminar on "Indian Literature and National Allegory" opened at Rabindra Bhavan here on Thursday. Organised jointly by Sahitya Akademi and Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla, the seminar was inaugurated by Planning Commission member Bhalchandra Mungekar.

Stating that the idea of cultural nationalism should be based on India's composite culture, Dr. Mungekar said: "Any attempt to redefine Indian culture on the basis of any one single culture would be fatal to our country."

Choreography festival

NEW DELHI: The 9th National Festival of New Choreography organised by Impresario India opens at India Habitat Centre here on Friday.

Six eminent dancers and choreographers will showcase their creative expressions and newer experiments at the three-day festival.

Day One will see Geeta Chandran's Natya Vriksha Dance Company focusing on different aspects of group work in Bharatanatyam.

This will be followed by Kathak choreographer Aditi Mangaldas' "Guruve Namah". Based on traditional form, the choreographic pieces will be presented by students of Drishtikon of Aditi Mangaldas Dance Ensemble.

The second day will see eminent dance scholar Kanak Rele choreographing Mohiniattam. Later Bimbavati Devi will showcase "Samavratee" in Manipuri choreography.

Sunday will see another Bharatanatyam choreography by Ananda Shankar Jayant dance ensemble.
