dated March 17, 1957: Holi in capital

Prime Minister Nehru was among Delhi's citizens who celebrated Holi on March 16 with traditional revelry. Mobbed by Holi enthusiasts at his house, he fully enjoyed the festival. In a matter of minutes, Mr. Nehru's face was smeared with red, green, violet and golden colours. The common people pushed and jostled Ministers and officials to get near the Prime Minister. Mr. Nehru's grandsons squirted coloured water on all the revellers with water syringes and rubber bottles. The Prime Minister himself took a syringe filled with colour and squirted the colour on the people around him. Earlier, Mr. Nehru, with his clothes covered with coloured water, played for a while with the two tiger cubs presented to him recently in Jubbulpore.
