Staff Correspondent
Bidar: The State budget has come under attack from various organisations and political parties. Suryakant Patil Dakulagi, president of the Agitation Committee of Farmers Displaced by the Karanja Irrigation Project, said the budget had ignored their demands. The Government has promised Rs. 50 crore as additional fund for farmers displaced by the Upper Krishna Project in Bagalkot. However, it failed to provide relief measures for us, he said. The Government has started four new tourist circuits. They include Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Bijapur, Shimoga and Madikeri. However, it has neglected tourist places in Bidar, Congress MLC Quazi Arshad Ali, said. The district has the 1100-year-old fort and the Madrasa of Mohammad Gawan, the ancient university and there are over 70 important monuments in Basava Kalyan alone. Only the Government can explain why it had not included Bidar and Basava Kalyan in the tourist circuits, he said. The district has also been left out of the rejuvenation project of minor irrigation tanks. The budget made no mention of grants to be allotted for projects to be taken up in the Godavari basin, Mr. Ali said. District Congress unit general secretary Arvind Arali said it was a populist budget and failed to find solutions to long-pending problems of deprivation and development. He said that the Government had neglected the long pending demand for bifurcating the Gulbarga-Bidar Milk Union.
