RAISING THEIR VOICE: Members of various organisations protesting against the assault on vice-president of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, Bhimshi Kaladagi in Bijapur on Friday.
BIJAPUR: Members of Left parties and other organisations on Friday protested against the abduction and assault of vice-president of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) Bhimshi Kaladagi. Activists led by CPI (M) State secretariat member G.C. Bayyareddy, who is also KPRS State secretary, and CPI (M) district secretary, Annaray Ilgera took out a procession from Siddeshwara Gudi to the Deputy Commissioner's office where they held demonstration. Mr. Bayyareddy and others said abduction and assault of a senior leader such as Mr. Kaladagi depicted the collapse of law and order. Mr. Kaladagihas been under treatment at a civil hospital here since his release. The protesters demanded a high-level inquiry into the case as there was an allegation that the main accused P.S. Vastrad, who is in judicial custody, enjoyed support of some police officials. Also, as the main accused was an advocate, there was a chance ofthe legal process being influenced. The administration should ensure that there is no scope for any such tampering.
