Four institutes to be set up under veterinary varsity

Bidar: The State Government has decided to extend the responsibilities of the Bidar Karnataka Veterinary University by setting up four institutes and starting a new course.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said in his budget speech on Friday that the Government would start a Dairy Science College in Gulbarga, a Centre for Toxicological Studies in Shimoga, a Centre for Vaccine Studies in Belgaum and an Institute of Wildlife Veterinary Studies in Madikeri. All these would function under the veterinary university.

Food technology course

The State Government has also allowed the university to start a food technology programme.

"We welcome the budget and thank the Government for the assistance," Vice-Chancellor R.N. Srinivas Gowda said. This is a pro-farmer budget, the special sheep and wool development programme would benefit people, he added. We had given seven proposals to the Government. Of these, five had been accepted, he said.

The Government has not accepted our proposal to set up a buffalo breeding farm and a Mudhol Hound breeding farm. University Registrar Suresh Honnappagol thanked the Government.
