Court accepts memo by disaffiliated college

VTU told to look into institution's suggestion

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday accepted a memo by one of the four disaffiliated engineering colleges and asked the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) whether it could permit students of the first and second year course to continue in the college. The court said SCT Engineering College in Bangalore had some infrastructure and suggested to the VTU counsel to check with the Vice-Chancellor and other authorities whether they could permit the students of the first and second year BE course to continue their studies in the college.

The memo by SCT said students of the third and fourth year engineering course could be transferred and that affiliation could be given to the institution and permit the first and second year students to continue their studies.

Justice Rammohan Reddy, who is hearing an interlocutory application (IA) by the VTU to vacate an earlier interim order, observed that the institution had infrastructure and it would not be appropriate if it was disaffiliated.

He suggested to the VTU counsel to reconsider the suggestion of SCT in the light of the memo filed by it and inform the court about subsequent developments.

The counsel for VTU said SECAB of Bijapur, SCT, Nadiger and IMPACT of Bangalore had been disaffiliated. None of them had been able to meet the basic requirement.
