Good start for Pushpagiri

THIRUVALLA: Host Pushpagiri Insititute of Science & Technology had a great start to its campaign in both the men's and women's sections in the second Mar Theophilos memorial inter-medicos basketball tournament here on Friday.The host men won over Jubilee Medical Mission, Thrissur 48-23, while its women's team defeated Sommervell Memorial Medical College, Karakonnam, 37-8.

The results: Men (first round): Pushpagiri 48 (Jeril Thomas 12) bt Jubilee 23; Medical College, Kozhikode 41 (Sreelesh 12) bt Amritha 36 (Sushil 12, Sunil Patel 12); MES, Perinthalmanna 58 (Hareesh 22, Mohammed Basheer 16) bt Medical College, Thrissur 36 (Joyce Joseph 16); Malankkara, Kolencherry 56 (Rahul Thampi 16) bt TD Medical College, Alappuzha 36 (P. Kiran 13).

Women (first round): Pushpagiri 38 (Teena Liya 16, R.M. Indu 10, Elizabeth K. Joseph 10) bt Sommervell 8.

RBI scores win

Reserve Bank of India scored a 3-0 win over Pettah Youngsters in the Thiruvananthapuram District `A' division football league at the Central Stadium at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. Shameer (52nd minute), Vinod (64th) and Kannan (65th) scored.

ITC athletic meet

The Ernakulam District ITC athletic meet will be held at the St. Paul's College ground, Kalamassery, on Saturday.
