Call for joint efforts to curb violence against women

Staff Reporter

Women's movements have been trying to prove that atrocities against women are not mere violence but a political issue

ANANTAPUR: Speakers at a meeting organised as part of the International Women's Day celebrations here on Friday stressed the need for equal efforts by men and women in society in the implementation of the Acts against domestic violence, sexual harassment and atrocities prevention against women.

Women's movements had been trying to prove that atrocities and violence against women was not mere violence but a political issue for the last three decades. The movements had also proved that violence was being utilised as a tool to suppress women, the speakers said.

The meeting was organised by Crescent Rural Development Society, an NGO.
