NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha on Friday passed various appropriation bills by voice vote to enable the Government meet its financial obligations, pending approval of the Finance Bill 2007-08 by Parliament. Moving the Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill, 2007 amidst vehement protests by Opposition members, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram sought Rs. 3,94,156 crore from the Consolidated Fund of India to meet Government expenses for a part of 2007-08. He also sought Rs. 3,86,337 crore from the fund to meet supplementary expenses for the rest of the current fiscal. These Bills are to be introduced later in the Rajya Sabha to mark the completion of the first phase of the budgetary exercise.
