Iron Maiden performance today

Bangalore: Iron Maiden has arrived in city. They were paraded this evening before the cameras in the run-up to Saturday's concert on Palace Grounds. But no, Eddie, the mascot, wasn't there, you'll just have to be there to see him.

The band comprising Bruce Dickinson, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Janick Gers, Steve Harris and Nicko McBrain has legend status in the heavy metal genre. They are famous for numbers such as "Fear Of The Dark", "Trooper", "Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter" and "Two Minutes To Midnight".

The band is on a tour around the world called Eddfest to promote their latest album A Matter Of Life and Death. During the concert they will play a mix of their new numbers as well as old ones. "Since we have come to a new place, we have to connect with the people, so we have mixed it up."

Drummer Nicko McBrain has a fan following of his very own. He said Deep Purple's Ian Paice and legendary jazz drummer Joe Morello inspired him. "I once saw Joe Morello play a drum solo and just then decided to be a drummer." McBrain added that his style is very "contemporary". The band has been around for more than 20 years now. Though members have come and gone, their music has more or less remained constant in terms of quality. They said they just try to come up with something fresh every time. "We don't analyse what we do. We have evolved but we don't look over our shoulders. Our new album A Matter Of Life And Death is fresh. The next one will be the same," said bassist Steve Harris.
