Udhagamandalam: At a function held at Gudalur on Saturday, the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, V.P. Duraisamy, launched the second phase of the distribution of free LPG connections. Addressing the gathering, he listed the welfare schemes being implemented by the Karunanidhi Government and urged the people to make the optimum use of them. During the first phase of the LPG scheme, 1,000 families in the district had benefited. During the second phase, 1241 families would get connections.
Tribal welfare
Nilgiris Collector Santosh K. Misra who presided said that the free television scheme has indirectly benefited a large number of tribals. Thanks to the scheme, they now have power connections. The beneficiaries of the free LPG scheme should exercise utmost caution while using the new cooking accessory. The District Supply Officer, K.R.Raja Mathivaanan, welcomed the gathering.
