HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed the officials of the Roads and Buildings Department to expedite procurement process and ensure early launch of works under the Rs. 1,600-crore World Bank-fund Andhra Pradesh Road Sector Project. The officials have been asked to take up works in a phased manner covering the upgradation and improvement of prioritised roads of 900-km length (involving Rs. 1,000 crores) in the first phase, followed by long-term performance-based maintenance contract (with an estimated Rs. 300 crores) in the second phase. Officials were told that the procurement of concessionaires for the roads viable under the VGF and PPP scheme should commence from September this year.
Review meet
Dr. Reddy, who reviewed the progress of works proposed under build, operate and transfer basis with senior officials on Saturday, wanted the procurement of concessionaire for road bridge across Godavari near Rajahmundry by July while the works on high-level bridge across Tungabhadra near Alampur be taken up under annuity scheme. The detailed feasibility reports for other projects should be finalised by June/July and action should be initiated for procurement of concessionaires, Dr. Reddy said. He directed the Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation Managing Director B. Rajagopala Reddy to issue orders for transfer and entrustment of core network roads to the corporation with immediate effect
