KOCHI: The environment sentinel group of the State Pollution Control Board has asked the management of the public sector Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL) to submit a revised site plan incorporating all its effluent drains and discharge points. The direction was issued after the group confirmed reports that the company maintained an unauthorised outlet to the Kuzhikandam creek in Eloor. In a press release, the Board said the drain actually meant for rainwater was used for discharging the water from the Endosulfan plant and the bathrooms used by the employees. The group found three-fourth of the drain concreted and the effluent flowing through the swampy area before reaching the creek. The company authorities were directed to stop the unauthorised discharge of effluent. They were directed to clear all the bushes in and around the discharge sites. They would have to submit the monthly water balance to the board without any delay, the release said.
