KSEB worker electrocuted

Staff Reporter

KANNUR: A Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) worker was electrocuted while he was engaged in maintenance work on an electric post at Thavakkara in the town here on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mathukkoth Suresh (44), a casual labourer attached to the KSEB office here. He died when he came in contact with a live electric line at around 1.30 p.m. He died on the spot.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel also suffered electric shock while they were trying to bring down the body from the post.

KSEB officials who reached the spot faced an irate group of people, including the Fire and Rescue Services personnel. Youth Congress workers took out a march to the office of KSEB Deputy Chief Engineer U. Mohan and staged a sit-in outside his office alleging that the accident was caused by the negligence of the KSEB.

Youth Congress district president Sajiv Joseph led the protestors. They dispersed following an assurance from the KSEB officials that a detailed probe would be initiated into the death of the worker.
