Government urged to launch more job schemes

MAKING A POINT: State CPI (M) secretariat member S.Y. Gurushanth addressing a conference in Hassan on Saturday.

HASSAN: Inaugurating Bhagat Singh's birth centenary and the third district conference of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Hassan on Saturday, State CPI(M) secretariat member and editor of "Ikyaranga" S.Y. Gurushanth said education and employment should become a fundamental right and the Government should launch employment schemes in Karnataka. He urged the youth not to be divided on the basis of caste and religion.

Mr. Gurushanth said Bhagat Singh was the inspiration for launching DYFI in 1980 to unite the youth of India to change society. He expressed concern over the increase in the number of unemployed youth. He said in the Union Government more then 3.5 lakh posts were vacant and 80,000 posts were vacant in the State Government. He regretted that no efforts had been made to fill these posts.

Unemployment for would create frustration among the youth forcing them to commit suicide, he said.

He recalled that when the Rs. 3600-crore Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Plant was started in Bellary district, there was hope that it would generate employment. However, though it earned profit employment opportunities were not created.

Communal forces

Mr. Gurushanth said communal forces under the garb of celebrating Hindu Samajotsava were sowing the seeds of communal hatred. He wanted DYFI to work for communal harmony. President DYFI State committee Sunil Kumar Bajal, secretary Bharat Raj and Sunanda Jayaram spoke. District convener Shavel Hameed presided over the function.
