Mangalore
Special Correspondent
MANGALORE: Animal lovers in Mangalore have asked the Mangalore City Corporation to be "pro-active" in implementing pet management norms. In a meeting organised by the Animal Care Trust (ACT) here recently, they suggested that rapid animal birth control programme and anti-rabies vaccination drive for stray and pet dogs should be part of the corporation's animal care and pet keeping norms. Suma Ramesh, ACT trustee, appealed people to help make the corporation's dog sterilisation and vaccination drives effective. People of Mangalore should be encouraged to adopt stray dogs so that they did not become a nuisance to the public, Ms. Ramesh said, adding that the corporation should give licences to such dogs. Dinesh Pai Kateel, animal rights activist, said that Mangalore should move progressively towards becoming a no stray dog city. To reach such a stage, people and civic authorities should become conscious about their surroundings and keep it garbage free, he said.
