Labourer killed in roof collapse

NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old labourer was killed and five sustained minor injuries when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed at East of Kailash here on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Fire Service Department, the roof collapsed at 1-50 p.m. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Nearly 16 labourers had been engaged in the construction work on the second storey of the building to install mobile phone tower.

Dhananjaya Mandal died on the spot. The injured were taken to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences and discharged after first aid.

Two held for

alleged robberies

NEW DELHI: Two young men have been arrested at Kalkaji here for alleged involvement in several cases of burglary and robbery.

A police team arrested the accused -- Raju Mahato and Manoj Kumar -- on Wednesday. The two had started running on seeing the police team on routine patrolling in the area causing suspicion and were arrested.

During interrogation, they purportedly confessed to their involvement in several cases of burglary and robbery at Mayur Vihar Phase III, Paschim Vihar and Kalkaji.

One held on fraud charge

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old man has been arrested at Bhajapura here for allegedly embezzling over Rs. 1 lakh and getting a fake complaint of robbery registered.

According to the police, Naveen Gupta, who was entrusted with payment collection by his employer, collected over Rs. 1 lakh on Friday. Later he concocted a false story of robbery and also made a call to the Police Control Room.

However, circumstances did not corroborate his version and he was caught. The entire money was allegedly seized at his instance.

Thiru Utsavam

NEW DELHI: Thiru Utsavam of Pushp Vihar Shree Dharmasastha Temple here will be conducted this coming Wednesday.

Cultural events will be organised to commemorate the first anniversary of consecration of Lord Shree Dharmasastha. Renowned Bharatanatyam dancer Geeta Chandran will perform at the function, followed by a concert by playback singer Biju Narayanan.
