NEW DELHI: After weaving the "turnaround magic" in the Indian Railways and a sterling performance at IIM-Ahmedabad, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad is all set to woo Silicon Valley, the World Bank Forum on investments and students of the Harvard Business School during his visit to the United States next month. Mr. Prasad has been invited to deliver the keynote address at a symposium in the Harvard Business School next month giving him an opportunity to rub shoulders with the upcoming management experts who had visited him in Delhi last year. Mr. Prasad will interact with students of B-schools in the United States and heads of the World Bank Forum and Indian Investors Forum in Washington and relate to them the "big story" on how the Railways managed to post a Rs. 20,000 crore profit without any fare hike, retrenchment of workforce, hiking user charges and still meeting its social obligations. The Minister's OSD Sudhir Kumar, the man credited with having played a big role in this turnaround story, said Mr. Prasad was one of the most sought after personalities by the international community as the "turnaround of the Railways" is one of the biggest success stories of last year around the globe, both in the private and public sectors. On March 26, students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management in the U.S., will meet Mr. Prasad in Delhi. During his visit to the U.S. next month, Mr. Prasad will be one of the main speakers at the World Bank Forum, Washington. He will make a presentation of the success story of the Railways under his leadership on April 10. He would also be interacting with the Indian Investors Forum in Washington on the same issue. On April 15, he will visit Silicon Valley and address the Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs Association. After that, he will visit the University of Chicago. On April 18, Mr. Prasad has been invited to deliver the keynote address at the Harvard Business School Turnaround Symposium. It is for the first time that a Union Minister has been bestowed this honour by the Harvard Business School. "Every single business school that is in the top ten league in the United States is getting in touch with us as they want to hear Mr. Prasad relate his success story," Mr. Kumar remarked.
