`Avoid fabricated reports'

Staff Reporter

THRISSUR: Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has called upon the media to desist from putting out fabricated reports.

Award

He was addressing a function to present the K.V. Daniel Award, instituted by Telegraph, to Johny Lucos of Manorama News here on Sunday.

The Home Minister said that certain undesirable trends in the media contravened the role of the Fourth Estate in democracy.

"Reports and news interviews should put events and people in proper perspective. Certain interviews, including the one done by Johny Lucos on Manorama News, have portrayed my real self. A person is sometimes judged by hearsay. At least on some occasions, I have struggled to prove that I am not a gruff person," Mr. Balakrishnan said.

Among those who spoke on the occasion were Minister for Revenue K.P. Rajendran, writer Sukumar Azhikode, Congress leader V M. Sudheeran and journalist P. Sreedharan.
