70 injured in Nepal clashes

KATHMANDU: Seventy persons were injured in clashes in Birgunj and Kalaiya in south Nepal's Terai region on Saturday, local newspaper The Himalayan Times reported on Sunday.

On Saturday, eight political parties, including the Seven-Party Alliance and the Communist Party of Nepal - Maoist (CPN-M), organised a "goodwill rally" in Birgunj of Parsa district.

The clash occurred when activists of the MPRF (also called Madhesi Janadhikar Forum) attacked the participants of the rally with batons. Thirty five persons were injured.

Another 35 persons were injured in clashes between the MPRF activists and activists of the eight parties in Kalaiya, Bara district. — Xinhua
