Reading room for senior citizens

The public library in the State capital is a premier institution. It is patronised by the young and the old, because of their reading habits and plentiful availability of reading materials, including newspapers and periodicals.

The aged people, heading for their 80s and 90s, go there now and then, if not regularly, to spend some of their leisure time going through the vast reading materials.

There is, however, a problem, as they have to climb around 20 steps to reach the reading room, which is hazardous and painful.

The authorities may well consider establishing a proper reading room for the aged on the ground floor, with sufficient sitting comfort and reading materials.

Violation of traffic rules at junction

The busy Pattom junction is a scene of traffic-rule violation. The traffic signal post near the post office there has been destroyed.

Vehicles are stopped on the zebra crossings, which are hardly visible now, meant for pedestrians.

The traffic police should be vigilant on those who stop vehicles over these lines and punish them on the spot. A new signal post should be erected soon near the post office.

Transport to Kochuveli station

Some trains start and terminate their services at the Kochuveli railway station. However, it is hard to go to the station from the city centre, especially for passengers with heavy luggage.

Will the railway authorities look into this matter? Will they arrange a connection train?

Introduce one-way traffic

Two-way traffic is now being allowed on the narrow road in front of Dhanya and Remya theatres.

As KSRTC buses are also running through this road, heavy traffic is experienced throughout the day. No footpath is provided, and pedestrians find it difficult to use the road.

One-way traffic should be introduced on the road or the S.L. Theatre road should also be opened for two-way traffic.

Karamana Mani,

Thiruvananthapuram.
