SALEM: Railway officials on Monday checked the welding in the newly laid rails in Salem - Attur broad gauge section. Official sources said that a team of personnel carried out the process with ultrasonic flaw detector equipment. "With the help of the equipment, we can detect any hairline cracks in the welding," a worker involved in the process said. Officials said that the process was very important. If any cracks developed during the welding were left unattended, it might lead to accidents during the operation of trains. "We will verify all the welds in the rail. Another team will be deployed for this purpose shortly," they said. The process would be completed quickly.
