TIRUPATI: As a prelude to the `Chalo Assembly' programme slated for March 22, the CITU Chittoor district at the instance of its State body held a demonstration before the municipal corporation office here on Monday. The activists criticised the Central and the State Governments for backtracking on their poll promise to abolish the contract worker system and to take up permanent recruitment in all sectors. The leaders said that it was highly regrettable that the Centre should drag its feet on enacting a comprehensive law to protect the interests of one crore and odd workers in the unorganised sector.
