Tuticorin: The police have tightened security in the town following a call for the dawn-to-dusk `Tuticorin bandh' on Tuesday given by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its allies.

The call was made at a meeting of the representatives of the DMK, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Congress, the Indian Union Muslim League and the Dalit Panthers of India, held here on March 12, to press their demand for shifting the Tuticorin railway station to Milavittan.

The Superintendent of Police, John Nicholson, told that 300 local police personnel and 100 from the Armed Reserve battalion would be deployed in the town to maintain law and order.

Seven mobile patrol teams have been formed, which would be headed by Sub-Inspectors, to keep a vigil.

Besides, 15 pickets would be established as part of the security arrangements.
