Motorcycle lifter held, vehicles recovered

CHENNAI : Police arrested a motorcycle lifter on Monday.

Police said Arumugam alias Ramkumar (30) of Thanthoni Amman Koil Street, Tirukazhukundram, was nabbed by members of the public and owner of a motorbike that he was attempting to lift in front of a restaurant on C. P. Ramasamy Road.

The Abhiramapuram police were informed and they interrogated the accused.

A habitual offender, Ramkumar was detained under the Goondas Act and came out of the prison recently, the police said.

The accused was involved in eight cases of motorcycle theft in different parts of the city.

Based on his confession, the police recovered three motorcycles parked on a ground near Tirukazhukundram, which were reportedly stolen in Mylapore and Tambaram. A case was registered and the accused produced before a city court, which remanded him to custody, the police added.
