Former Speaker passes away

HYDERABAD:
Former Assembly Speaker G. Narayana Rao passed away here on Monday due to cardiac arrest, at BBR Hospital, Balanagar, according to a release from his family members.
Mr. Rao who was admitted to the hospital a fortnight ago with kidney ailment served as Assembly Speaker between 1984-88 and was elected to the Assembly in 1984.
He was also active in the Telangana movement in 1969 led by Channa Reddy.
He was born on October 25, 1925, at Timmapur, Jagityal Mandal, Karimnagar district and practised as a civil and criminal lawyer between 1955-83 and served as President of the Bar Association.
He also played a crucial role in setting up of `Apatbandu' ambulance service and a blood bank in 1987 in his native town.
The departed leader is survived by three daughters.
