Rotary Club team to perform 900 free cataract surgeries in Ghana

CHENNAI:
Rotary Club of Madras has sent a team of surgeons and paramedics to perform around 900 free cataract surgeries in Ghana, Africa, on Sunday.
This is the third successive year that a team of eye surgeons and paramedics would complete the same number of surgeries, in association with the Ghana Health Ministry and the Rotary Club of Accra West.
V.K. Subburaj, Health Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, said Tamil Nadu could boast of being among the best eye care centres in the world.
Ravi Katari, President, Rotary Club of Madras, said the total cost of the project was Rs.15 lakh, of which around Rs.5 lakh had been put in by Rotarians in Ghana.
The rate of blindness is estimated at 2.2 per cent in Ghana's slums.
