ONGC `A' to meet IOC

CHENNAI: ONGC `A' and IOC will clash in the men's final of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board inter-unit men's tennis tournament to be held at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Stadium here on Wednesday.

In the last four clash, ONGC `A' had the better of OIL `A' 2-0 while IOC defeated ONGC `B' 2-0.

All the matches were one-sided barring the second tie involving IOC and ONGC `B'.

Sanam Singh was cruising in the second set after having comfortably pocketing the first against Kamala Kannan.

Serving for the match at 5-1, Sanam messed up a match point and lost his serve. Kamala Kannan reeled off the next two games.

And just when it seemed that the match would go down to the wire, Sanam closed out the match in the 10th game with minimum fuss.

Semifinals: IOC bt ONGC `B' 2-0 (Divij Sharan bt Siva Kumar Palani 6-0 (concd.); Sanam Singh bt Kamala Kannan 6-3, 6-4; ONGC `A' bt OIL `A' 2-0 (Vijay Kannan bt Anshuman Dutta 6-1,6-0; Vinod Sridhar bt C.S. Mohanty 6-2, 6-2).

Quarterfinals: IOC bt IBP 2-0 (Sanam Singh bt Saurab Panja 3-0 (concd.); Divij Sharan bt T.S. Bhandari 6-1, 6-0; ONGC `B' bt EIL 2-0 (Kamala Kannan bt Harish Khurana 6-0, 6-2; Siva Kumar Palani bt N.K. Pawar 6-0, 6-1; OIL `A' bt BPCL 2-0 (Anshuman Datta bt Pramod Gulati 6-0, 6-1; Hakim Ali bt Bhushan Akut 6-1, 3-6, 6-4).

Veteran's (semifinals):
