MADURAI: In what comes as a relief to parents of pre-primary students of the Kendriya Vidyalayas, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has withdrawn the decision of `no automatic promotion' of pre-primary students to Standard I in the same school for 2007-08. The Kendriya Vidyalayas have been told that pre-primary students can be automatically admitted to Standard I in the same school. This was conveyed to Madurai MP P. Mohan, who took up the issue with Ministry officials in New Delhi on Monday. Confusion prevailed among parents when the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan decided that children studying in pre-primary classes would not be promoted to Standard I, and that parents would have to apply afresh. Following representations from parents, the Ministry decided to implement the new guideline from the next academic year. In a release, Mr. Mohan said several parents had represented the hardships they faced after the change in the admission procedure.
