Corrections and Clarifications

* The first sentence in "Expanding public transport" (Editorial, March 20, 2007) was: "The report of the Planning Commission's working group for the 11th Five Year Plan on urban transport contains welcome recognition of the mobility crisis that is affecting the qualify of life in the cities." It should have been "quality".

* In a Guardian report, "Don't exaggerate climate dangers, warn scientists" (Op-Ed, March 19, 2007) the reference to the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change was incorrect. It should have been the (United Nations) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Recognising the problem of potential global climate change, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) established the IPCC in 1988. It is open to all members of the UN and WMO. The IPCC does not carry out research nor does it monitor climate related data or other relevant parameters. It bases its assessment mainly on peer reviewed and published scientific/technical literature.

* In a report "Opposition: explain surplus in Railways" (March 9, 2007), the first paragraph stated how the Indian Railways has earned a whopping profit of Rs. 20,000 crore despite a fall in passenger traffic by nearly seven per cent. In paragraph five, the reference was to the Railway Minister's claim of the Railways earning a 14 per cent profit when statistics reveal that passenger traffic has increased by only seven per cent. The Delhi Bureau clarifies that in paragraph five too, the sentence should have been "... passenger traffic has decreased by seven per cent."

* Conversion blues. We incorrectly gave 255 pounds to be 102.27 kg, in "Corrections and Clarifications" (March 20, 2007). It should have been 115.91 kg.
