KANNUR: An investors' meet will be organised by the Animal Husbandry Department here on March 21 to create awareness on investment potential in meat processing ventures. Chief Veterinary Officer M. Gangadharan Nair and Animal Husbandry Deputy Director Sanil G. Cheeran said at a press conference here that meat production sector in the State continued to be unorganised and unscientific. Lack of modern slaughterhouses, shortage of healthy animals, short supply of experienced workers and supervisors and inadequacy of facilities for scientific examination of meat quality were still major problems, they said adding that investors were not aware of its potential. It was in this backdrop the department was organising the meet - Kravyam 2007 - at Jawahar Library Hall on March 21. A new development strategy centred on the meat production and processing sector was expected to emerge at the meet, they said. District Panchayat president K.K. Narayanan would inaugurate the meet at 10 a.m. It would be followed by classes on investment possibilities, bank loans, hygienic meat production and value addition, meat industry and prospects of broiler meat production, among other topics.
