PATHANAMTHITTA: The church town of Parumala, on the banks of River Pampa, is all set to host the Malankara Syrian Christian Association (MSCA) meeting to be held at the St. Gregorios Nagar (Parumala Seminary premises) on Wednesday. The meeting of MSCA, the 4,051-member parliament of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The Malankara Metropolitan and Catholicos of the East Baselios Mar Thoma Didymos I will preside over the meeting. As a prelude to the meeting, Stephanos Mar Theodosius, Metropolitan of the Kolkata diocese of the Church, hoisted the Catholicate Flag at the venue on Tuesday. The last meeting of the managing committee that completed its five-year term was also held at Parumla on Tuesday. Catholicos-designate Paulose Mar Milithios presided over the committee meeting. The Metropolitans of the Church, Mathews Mar Epiphanius, Philipose Mar Eusebius, Kuriakose Mar Cleemis, Youhanon Mar Milithios, Zacharias Mar Anthonios, Mathews Mar Sevarios, Paulose Mar Pachomios, Yakoob Mar Iraeneus, Zacharias Mar Theophilus and Youhanon Mar Chrisostomos and Church secretary Alexander Karackal spoke.
Arrangements
Dr. Karackal said that elaborate arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the association meeting as well as the election of trustees and managing committee members of the Church on Wednesday. All the 1,319 clergy representatives and 2,732 Lay members who have been elected from different parishes under 25 dioceses of the Church will attend the meeting. The MSCA meeting will elect the new Clergy Trustee and Lay Trustee, besides 43 priests and 86 Lay members, to the 129-member managing committee of the Church on Wednesday. O.P. Sosamma, State Land Revenue Commissioner of Tamil Nadu, is the returning officer. A total of 40 registration counters and 60 polling booths have been set up for the smooth conduct of the elections, according to Biju Oommen, general convener. Mr. Oommen said that five candidates were contesting for the post of Lay Trustee and two candidates for the post of Clergy Trustee.
