Kozhikode: The district administration is making another attempt involving elected representatives of the district and Mayor M. Bhaskaran to reopen Government Law College which is remaining closed owing to clashes between two groups of students a fortnight ago. District Collector in-charge P. Balan told The Hindu here on Monday that another round of talks with all political parties would be convened to end the standoff.
No results
An all-party meeting called on Saturday yielded no positive results, he said. Elected representatives including MLAs in the district would be engaged in the next round of talks, Mr. Balan said. At least 10 persons were injured in clashes between the Kerala Students Union (KSU)-Muslim Students Federation (MSF) combine and the Students Federation of India (SFI) on March 5. To protest against the incident, the United Democratic Front (UDF) also observed a hartal in the Kozhikode taluk the next day. Several meetings called by Principal Radha G. Nair for reopening the college bore no fruit. The UDF and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) boycotted an all-party talks called by the Principal. Both these parties demanded that the Collector convene the all-party meeting.
