THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has sought objections and suggestions, if any, to a proposal to amend the Kerala Headload Workers (Regulation of Employment and Welfare) Scheme. They are to be submitted within one month of the notification of the proposed amendment, which is March 5. According to the proposed amendment, if a headload worker in the rolls of a committee, dies in service, or is removed from the rolls of the committee as recommended by a medical board on account of total and permanent disability to do loading and unloading work due to any accident or disease, any dependent of the deceased worker or of the worker so removed, who has attained the age of 18 years and is of sound physique may file an application in Form E before the Convenor of the committee concerned. This should be done in three months from the date of death/removal of the worker. The application shall be accompanied by two passport-size photographs of the applicant and documents specified by the Chief Executive of the board. Provided that an undertaking shall be obtained from the dependent who filed application to the effect that he will give reasonable financial support to the family of the deceased/removed worker on the breach of which the committee shall have the power and right to deduct such reasonable sum not less than 25 per cent and not exceeding 50 per cent from his wages at source for eventual disbursement to the family of the deceased/or of the removed worker. The proposed amendment defines dependentas the wife/husband, father, mother, son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother, sister.
