Divij likely to get the nod

NEW DELHI: National Games champion Divij Sharan is likely to be included in the Davis Cup squad for the Asia-Oceania Group `I' first play-off tie to be played on indoor hardcourts against Kazakhstan at Almaty from April 6 to 8. The squad is to be picked on Wednesday.

The team of Karan Rastogi, Sunil Kumar and Vivek Shokeen, led by Leander Paes, is expected to be retained.

The 21-year-old Divij will stake his claim as the fourth best Indian singles player on the ATP computer with a career-best current ranking of 484.

For the Fed Cup tie to be played at Christchurch from April 18 to 21, the 240th-ranked Shikha Uberoi is likely to spearhead the Indian challenge in the seven-nation competition. The 47th-ranked Sania Mirza is out with a knee injury.

The U.S.-based Sunitha Rao's application to represent India is pending with the International Tennis Federation (ITF). If she gets the approval, the 220th-ranked Sunitha will be the No.1 ranked player for the two-group league.
