DEMAND FOR MORE: Members of the Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers' Association staging a protest in Gulbarga on Tuesday.
GULBARGA: The Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers' Association here on Tuesday criticised the State Government for not increasing the honorarium paid to Anganwadi workers and helpers in the State Budget. The Anganwadi workers took out a procession in the State and staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in the city. They accused the Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and the Women and Child Welfare Minister H.K. Kumaraswamy of going back on their assurances given to the association on increasing the honorarium to Anganwadi workers. In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, state president of the association Shanta N. Ghanti and district president Gouramma P. Patil said that on February 14 Mr. Yediyurappa had assured that honorarium would be increased and an announcement would be made in the budget. Similarly Mr. Kumaraswamy had assured that the State Government would increase the honorarium to a respectable level. However, both these promises have not been fulfilled. The association warned that if the State Government did not increase the honorarium paid to Anganwadi workers, the association would be forced to launch an agitation.
