Municipal corporation has modified its proposals to fix the meters in three model municipal divisions

  • Three divisions have 216 two-portion houses: survey
  • In addition, there are 88 commercial connections

KADAPA: Kadapa Municipal Corporation has modified its proposals, in consultation with corporators, to fix water meters in households in three model municipal divisions -- 19, 20 and 27, which were getting round-the-clock water supply, Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy said on Tuesday.

It was decided not to fix water meters in 520 single-portion houses in the three divisions, the Mayor told a press conference.

A survey indicated that the three divisions have 216 two-portion houses, 71 three-portioned ones, 56 four-portioned ones, 17 five-portioned and 11 houses with more than five portions, he said. In addition, there were 88 commercial connections.

Commercial establishments were served notices to fix water meters and those lacking meters were disconnected water supply, Mr. Ravindranath Reddy said.

The pilot project being implemented in three divisions would be extended to all other areas depending on the results.

    Opposing

The Telugu Desam Party, the CPI (M) and the CPI were needlessly opposing water meters, he alleged.

Water meters were being fixed to monitor quantum of water supply and its judicious use to avert wastage, the Mayor asserted.

    Individual houses

`Rajiv Swagruha' Scheme would serve the housing needs of middle classes at nearly 25 per cent lower than the market rates, Mr. Ravindranath Reddy said. The Government would acquire private lands in urban areas if necessary.

Individual houses would be built in Kadapa, which has less population than five lakhs, under the scheme.

    Loans

Bank loans would be arranged for the beneficiaries, he said. Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool and Municipal Commissioner S. Aleem Basha also participated.
