SSC exam centres to look colourful

Staff Reporter

Students need not wear uniform

VIJAYAWADA: All the schools in Krishna district that serve as centres for the 10th class examinations beginning on Wednesday will present a colourful look. Officials of the Education Department in the district have asked the students appearing for the examinations to give up their school uniforms and appear for the examinations in civil dress.

"This is to avoid any possible favouritism at the examination centres," explains Krishna District Education Officer D. V. Krishna Vinayak.

Dr. Vinayak said on Tuesday that the uniform could be helpful in identifying the school to which a student belonged, which could pave way for a possible favouritism. Speaking about the elaborate arrangements made at the examination centres to cater to the needs of the students, he said 95 per cent of the schools in the district were provided with furniture. New furniture was bought for at least 13 schools in the district at a cost of Rs. 24 lakhs.

Thirty of the 43 bus routes were rescheduled to address the problems raised in a recent review meeting with other departments, he said, adding that buses were diverted to the remaining 13 routes. First aid kits and other medical facilities, supply of drinking water and uninterrupted power supply in the examination centres were other focus areas, he said. Use of cell phones had been banned in the examination hall.

Dr. Vinayak said a total of 277 examination centres were set up across the district for 43,236 regular and 16,876 private students. As many as 554 headmasters or senior school assistants were appointed as chief superintendents and departmental officers, in addition to the 12 flying squads consisting of personnel drawn from the revenue, police and education departments.

All the confidential material had been deposited in 56 police stations and four sub-treasuries and Section 144 was clamped to prevent any untoward incident.
