CP cracks the whip on officials

Staff Reporter

Punishment ranges from suspension to charge memo

  • Anti-Goonda Squad not able to live up to the expectations, he says
  • One Home Guard removed from service

VIJAYAWADA: Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand on Tuesday cracked the whip on several policemen by way of handing out punishments ranging from suspension to serving of charge memos for their "failure to discharge duties properly."

Anti-Goonda Squad (AGS) inspector M. Raja Rao was suspended for his "inability to present all the history-sheeters" at the counselling conducted by the Police Commissioner recently. Some of the `notable' history-sheeters did not attend the counselling, and those who did not attend were actually helped by way of giving wrong information to higher-ups.

Mr. Anand noted that the AGS, which was formed to control the serious unlawful elements, had not been able to live up to the expectations. He said the AGS had also failed to carry out his orders to gather the details of eunuchs in the city and present them before him, in view of the finger of suspicion pointing to them in cases relating to a couple of recent murders. The AGS had not cooperated enough in the investigation into the murders of Koneru Nagasri and Raghava Chaitanya.

Mr. Raja Rao was also served a charge memo in the case relating to the attempt on the life of Vangaveeti Santan Kumar. In the same case, Satyanarayanapuram inspector Ch. Lakshmipathi, Machavaram inspector Jagannadha Rao and former West circle inspector Ramana Murthy were served charge memos.

Ibrahimpatnam inspector S.J. Jayasurya was also suspended for not being able to nab the husband of Ghousia Begum, the woman who lodged a complaint against him for deserting her after marriage. Home Guard Muktiar Ali Ahmed, who allegedly misled the sub-inspector, was removed from service.

    Escape of offender

In the case relating to the escape of a night offender from Satyanarayanapuram police station, the Commissioner suspended constable K. Venkateswara Rao, removed from service home guard K. Venkateswara Rao (another person of the same name), and served charge memos on DSI Hussain and inspector Ch. Lakshmipathi.

Mr. Anand served charge memos on two sub-inspectors and three DSIs for "failing to control thefts" by not conducting night beats effectively. Central Crime Station sub-inspector Pallapu Raju and Two Town law & order sub-inspector Pavan Kumar were served the memos "for failing to discharge duties effectively."

Governorpet DSI Mohana Rao was served the memo for "failing to prevent the burglary" of a house in his area in which Rs.13 lakh worth jewellery was stolen, while Suryaraopet DSI G. Srinivasa Rao and Machavaram DSI D.N.V. Prasad were served the memo for "failing to prevent two house burglaries" in their area.
