Accused in iron balls case surrenders

CHENNAI: Ramesh Kumar of Perambalur, wanted in connection with the iron balls seizure case, surrendered in a city court on Tuesday.

The `Q' Branch police said he was evading arrest for over a month. Based on the confession given by a few of the accused arrested earlier, a hunt was on to nab him. He surrendered before the Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore, which remanded him to judicial custody till April 3.The police had seized 4.5 tonnes of iron balls, allegedly to be smuggled to Sri Lanka, from Ramesh's house.
